Keep Me From Wondering, Caring
I wonder what your wife and children look like
and if you would tell me one day.
I sometimes wonder if your wife dyes her hair.
and if she is thin.
I wonder if your children are taller than me.
and if your youngest child is taking driver’s ed classes.
I wonder if your oldest son is working full time.
and if your wife talks much,
if your children attended private schools growing up,
if all of your children still live with you,
if your wife’s family is in Rhode Island,
if all of your children are healthy,
if all of your children got along growing up,
if your oldest child looks as old as me.
I wonder about your children’s names,
what your children smell like.
I wonder if there are still stuffed animals in your house,
if your wife regularly cooks meals,
if your wife were born in the same year as you
and if you’ve sent your children to state universities as it’s less expensive.
Being married doesn’t keep me from wondering about you.
How should being married keep me from caring?
