A lady asked me what it was about Turkey that had me stay there for about four years.

She said that I stayed in Turkey longer than I stayed in Russia, Georgia (the country) and China for a reason.

I explained that I couldn’t say why I resided in Turkey for as long as I did but I mentioned that I could easily build a network there. I added that the Turkish people were deep in a way that I could easily connect with but I told her that, certainly, no words could really describe the reasons for my motivation to live and work there.

She wasn’t satisfied with my answer. She thought that my answer wasn’t interesting or in-depth enough.

I thought about my reply to her while responding.

I could have mentioned the historical structures in Istanbul such as the Dolmabahce and Topkapi Palaces and Galata Tower and that I was drawn to Ottoman history in particular but I didn’t want to mention that because every country has its own special and beautiful history (and it wasn’t Turkish history that attracted me to Turkey anyway).

I did tell her that I understood that there were people who could definitely be perceived as deep in every country in the world by possibly anyone so I was reluctant to say that I liked Turkey because a lot of the people I happened to meet there conversed…
