Never Been Set

“It doesn’t look like you’ve ever been set.”

I think long and hard about my work history and the day when someone made that comment about my resume was no exception.

I know how it feels when someone says that another’s career hasn’t appeared stable.

I try not to be taken aback by such remarks.

Upon deeper reflection, I’d like to share that I don’t think that anyone’s life has been linear. Everyone’s life has gone down many curves, through crooked roads and dead-ends in their own way.

I don’t want to come to a point where I doubt my ability because of my past tendency to switch companies after a year or two.

I like to think that a lot of us are here to think about ways to help people, or contribute to society. I may have gone from one company to another in a short period of time but I’ve helped many people with my English teaching. I would like to justify that I am curious about new places which is why I traveled to four different countries to teach English.

Life is about exploring who we are.

I have not stayed with one employer for long but I have a right to give a company a try and see if I am a long-term fit. If I don’t feel that I am a long-term fit, then I don’t obligate myself to stay at the company.
