On ‘Men Who Eat Soft Rice’

This is likely to be a characteristic of a man whom Chinese people describe as ‘eating soft rice’. A man who financially depends on a woman fully for his need when he’s more than capable of working for himself is usually an abuser.

My father has told me once, “I’m glad that your standards of men are high enough that you won’t ever be with ‘a man who eats soft rice’.”

‘A man who eats soft rice’ is a Chinese insult. When a man is told, or is spoken of, that ‘he eats soft rice’, it means that he relies on his wife or girlfriend to feed him.

Just as many people speak of women as being ‘gold-diggers’, the Chinese speak off…
