We celebrated my birthday at two cafes.

At one of them, we sat by a window. It was late.

I cried a lot when I told Tom about that blonde.

He felt so sorry for me that he also cried a little and said that he understood me.

He held my hands in his and our faces were close together and he told me to please stop talking to that blonde man and move on.

He said that I was too good to talk to someone already engaged.

He said that I was hurting myself by keeping myself loyal to that blonde in the way that I did.

He said that I didn’t deserve to continue liking someone who wasn’t available.

He said, ‘Debbie, this isn’t good for you. If you keep doing this, no man will appear in your life. You have to let him go. Please let him go. He told you that he’s engaged. He can’t break up with that girl to be with you. Maybe life wouldn’t be better with you. And that girl would be alone. You have a lot of heart. You should give your heart to someone else.’

Tom said he knew my heart.

He told me that I should stop hurting myself.

I then went out with Tom a few times more (I will always remember that dinner we had at a Moroccan restaurant; I especially liked that mint green
