“You’re Not the King of This House!”

I feel very sad and uncomfortable when a parent hits or scolds a child.

It can be said that it’s none of my business.

It’s true that I don’t know anyone’s situation.

I still want to say that I don’t feel comfortable seeing someone so big overpower someone so small.

I often see the way some parents discipline their children as an uneven power balance.

I may think too much about a parent yelling and/or slapping a child but I can’t help but think that, at times, the parent may have no one else to exert their power on but on their children so they take their frustration about this on them.

Some parents discipline their children to the point that their children are in tears and I may have no place to say anything but I would feel bad if my actions made someone else cry. I wonder if some parents who cause their children to cry wonder about how to discipline their children differently because how can they take making their children feel bad?

I remember a father of two children who told me that he yelled at his 10-month-old son to get off his armchair. He said, “How dare you sit there?! You are not the king of this house!”

He told me what he said with tears in his eyes, telling me that he didn’t know what made…
